CONTIPARK signs agreement for new premium property “MesseCity Cologne”

CONTIPARK will operate the “MesseCity” underground car park in Cologne from autumn 2019. The project partners CONTIPARK, STRABAG Real Estate and ECE signed a corresponding agreement in Berlin on Thursday, 9 May 2019.

Hamburg/Cologne, 16.05.2019     The underground car park is currently being built as part of an inner-city district development. STRABAG Real Estate GmbH (SRE) and ECE Projektmanagement are jointly building what is referred to as MesseCity Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine in the former Barmer quarter. The new city district will act as a link between the Köln Messe/Deutz railway station and the koelnmesse trade fair center. It encompasses seven individual buildings and two underground car parks, each with two levels and a total of around 1,000 parking spaces. MesseCity Cologne will create around 115,000 m2 of office space, two hotels and up to 2,000 m2 of commercial space for the retail trade and catering industry in the heart of the city.

The first construction phase, with a total of three office buildings and a hotel complex, was started in the third quarter of 2016 and is scheduled for completion in mid-2020. It also includes the construction of the first underground car park in the western part of the site for which CONTIPARK has now signed the lease agreement. Overall completion of the project, including the second underground car park, is scheduled by 2024.

CONTIPARK and its two project partners SRE and ECE have enjoyed a trust-based working relationship for many years. They have already implemented a number of projects together. CONTIPARK was involved in the development of SRE’s high-rise complex “Tanzende Türme [Dancing Towers]” in Hamburg and manages the underground car park of the same name which is part of the property. In addition, CONTIPARK operates several parking facilities in shopping centers managed by ECE.

We are therefore particularly proud to implement another showcase project jointly with SRE and ECE in ‘MesseCity’ and to be allowed to operate another state-of-the-art underground car park in this cathedral city in the future,” said CONTIPARK Managing Director Michael Kesseler on the occasion of the signing the agreement.

Volker Comelli, Managing Director of MesseCity Cologne and project developer at STRABAG Real Estate, said, “Around 3,000 new jobs, 308 hotel rooms and 171 hotel studio apartments will be created in the western part of MesseCity and the occupancy rate at the central location will be correspondingly high.

“In Contipark, we are pleased to have found a professional car park operator and a strong partner for MesseCity Cologne and to have laid another building block towards implementing the overall project,” added Steffen Wittwer, Development Manager responsible for the project at ECE. “Having already concluded rental agreements with prestigious users for the western part of MesseCity Cologne, we are currently concentrating on marketing further spaces in the eastern part.”

The “MesseCity” underground car park will be designed and built to the latest standards. With a total of 617 parking spaces in the first construction phase, it will provide its users with a high level of convenience and outstanding service. For example, there are plans for extra-wide parking spaces and the construction of charging stations for electric vehicles.
